One-Year Internship Opportunity!
Your chance to be a part of a botanical gem of the Pacific Northwest
Two one-year internships are available at the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden beginning July 1st, 2026. The Miller Garden is a two-and-a-half-acre garden with an exceptional collection of woody and herbaceous plants. The facilities include a small greenhouse, an alpine house, lath house and a nursery to support garden operations and sharing of the collection with other institutions. The garden is open to the public on a limited basis, so this is a rare opportunity to see the garden in all seasons.
The position is focused on garden maintenance, and it is important that candidates be prepared for rigorous physical labor in the variable climate of the Pacific Northwest. Responsibilities include renovating and developing garden beds and pathways, along with weeding, watering, pruning, supporting events, and propagating plants.
We have a small staff, so it is important that candidates have a positive attitude and an excellent work ethic. The chosen candidate will also work weekly with volunteers who assist in garden maintenance as well as interact with visitors to the garden. Horticulture or related education is preferred. Priority is given to applicants currently in school or recently graduated.
The internship includes opportunities to attend special events, tours and classes which enhance learning for the interns and gives context to their work in the garden.
The one-year part-time internship starts July 1, 2026, at 24 hours per week, with a wage of $22 per hour. Work is scheduled during the week (Monday-Friday) with occasional weekend/evening work required. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the garden.
The E. C. Miller Botanical Garden is an equal opportunity employer.
